I hope these were brighter and more attractive originally. The cream and green ones were from the kitchen area, with the one on the right probably pasted on top of the left one. The other was from the front entrance. There was a relatively new concern for sanitation in the home in the early 1900s. According to Homes in Alberta: Building, Trends, and Design by Donald G. Wetherell and Irene R. A. Kmet (page 89): "Warnings were given that the rough surface of the paper as well as the wallpaper paste harboured millions of germs. There were many folk remedies for cleaning wallpaper, but all were labour intensive and often risky. Washing with an antiseptic or fumigation with sulfur were two methods, but these practices often bleached the colour from the paper. Wallpaper was sometimes varnished to make it easier to clean, but, more often, dirty paper was simply covered with a clean layer - a common task given the grime produced by burning coal, wood and petroleum for heating and lighting." |

The Street Name of Third Avenue NW, as shown in the 1912 Henderson's, probably should be SW.
